Following sparks of excitement regarding Grand Theft Auto VI’s potential PC port, official word has killed the hope that it’ll launch this year.
There’s been a bit of confusion in the last 12 hours or so over what platforms GTA VI will be playable on at launch.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are obviously confirmed, with the PlayStation apparently being the best platform according to Rockstar Games.
However, a report yesterday from The Verge claimed Xbox had secured the exclusive streaming rights to GTA VI for launch, and gamers would be able to play it via cloud-streaming on their PCs.
This has since been disproven by Xbox CSO Matthew Ball, who responded to the claim saying: “While the excitement for GTA VI and XBOX is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting. We are looking forward to launching GTA VI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.”

So to reiterate: GTA VI’s launch platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. There’ll be no way of playing the game on PC until Rockstar releases an official port of the game.
That said, The Verge seems to have correctly reported that there is some sort of deal in place between Xbox and Rockstar for cloud streaming. So while you won’t be able to stream the game on your PC, you will be able to cloud stream the game on your console, provided you’ve got access to Xbox Cloud Gaming.

While that’s not as exciting as the prospect of playing the game on PC, it is interesting to see Xbox and Rockstar potentially partnering up after all of the game’s “plays best on PS5” marketing.
GTA VI is expected to launch on PC next year
While the launch day plans for GTA VI have been cleared up, it’s still left many wondering when the game will come to PC.
Previous reports have highlighted early to mid-2027 as the most likely time, and this does somewhat match Rockstar’s track-record when it comes to PC ports of its games.
We’d speculate that it’ll launch a little later, however. Grand Theft Auto V didn’t come to PC until 2015, well over a year after the game’s original launch in 2013.
Rockstar is also yet to outline its plans for the next iteration of GTA Online too, which will probably come before a new port of the game. It’s even speculated that an iconic map from Grand Theft Auto’s history could make a comeback to mark the occasion.
Perhaps it's GTA Online that we'll get somewhere around mid-2027, with the PC port arriving around a year after GTA VI's launch.
For now, there are no plans for GTA VI to be playable on PC at day one, either through an official port or cloud streaming. Give it a few months though and we’re sure modders will somehow have an unofficial port in the works.
