3rd Tomb Raider Remaster Collection Rumoured For 30th Anniversary

A third Tomb Raider remaster collection has been teased for the franchise’s 30th anniversary, which is launching later this year.

The Tomb Raider franchise is going through somewhat of a renaissance lately, with two rather successful remastered collections already in the bag (despite some hiccups), as well as two brand new games coming in 2026 and 2027.

With the first six games now available as remasters on modern platforms, and the next mainline games also taking place in the franchise’s new “Unified Timeline”, that still leaves out one trilogy.

It appears that Tomb Raider’s ‘LAU Trilogy’, also known as the Legend series, is still inaccessible on modern platforms, despite the other classic games getting the remaster treatment.

The trilogy consists of Tomb Raider: Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld, and were all released on seventh generation hardware between 2006 and 2008.

Okay, so you can technically play them on PC, PlayStation or Xbox either as native titles or via backwards compatibility, but it’s a pretty lackluster experience no matter where you choose to play.

The Xbox versions are in a lower resolution and have performance issues, while the PlayStation versions are actually emulating the outdated PS2 versions of Legend and Anniversary. Tomb Raider: Underworld isn’t even available there.

And on PC, it gets a bit messy if you try to get them running properly on modern hardware, plus there’s missing DLC content in Tomb Raider: Underworld. It’s safe to say that a remaster might be needed to get these up to snuff.

Could Aspyr Be Remastering The Tomb Raider Legend Trilogy?

Fans have theorised that a third Tomb Raider remaster collection consisting of the Legend trilogy is on the way, and a new post on Reddit indicates that this may be Crystal Dynamics’ plan before the release of Legacy of Atlantis.

Referring to a rumoured delay of Legacy of Atlantis into early 2027, Reddit user Jasonvsfreddyvs theorises that the alleged remaster collection may release in late 2026.

“Society of Raiders, the same source that leaked Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, commented a few months ago that Aspyr would be working on something for the 30th anniversary of Tomb Raider, and everything points to it being a remaster of LAU,” they write in a post.

“Just this week, the official Tomb Raider X account commented that Tomb Raider Legend turned 20 this week. As I mentioned here last year, the fact that the official Tomb Raider account tweeted about Tomb Raider Underworld suggested that a remaster of LAU was on the way.”

The user then adds: “And if we now add the possible delay of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, it would be most likely that a remaster of LAU would be a plan B for this year by Embracer Group and Crystal Dynamics, but we will have to wait for confirmation of the delay of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, since rumors point to a release date of February 12, 2027.”

According to Society of Raiders, Aspyr is working on something Tomb Raider-related for the 30th anniversary, and points to a possible remaster of Tomb Raider LAU

It does seem likely that remasters of the Legend trilogy are in the works, considering how well-received the previous Aspyr remasters were, as well as the fact that Tomb Raider: Legend is one of the more popular games in the series.

With Legacy of Atlantis also set to unify all of the series’ timelines, it also stands to reason that Crystal Dynamics will want all of Lara’s adventures available on as many modern platforms as possible, including Nintendo Switch.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what Crystal Dynamics and Aspyr is cooking up. Official sources have not confirmed a remaster yet, but more attention has been given lately to the games in the Legend trilogy which may hint at future plans for them.
