With The Sims 5 not happening anytime soon, and the multiplayer-driven Project Rene not being what many fans are looking for, fans of the Maxis franchise are stuck either playing The Sims 4 and older titles or seeking alternatives. While few games are as good at juggling house-building, character management, and so on, there are areas where Sims-like titles can outdo EA’s life sim juggernaut. Storytelling is one such area, as while The Sims has some interesting families with surprisingly complex lore, players are largely free to come up with their own narratives. Because of this approach, games like Consume Me on Steam can offer similar mechanics but far more thought-out and impactful stories.
