Skyrim free download adds a delicious new companion we could just gobble up

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of Bethesda’s best, but would it have had the staying power it does were it not for all of the mods?

You could argue most Bethesda games wouldn’t be nearly as popular if gamers couldn’t tweak and change them to their liking, whic is another reason we’re excited for The Elder Scrolls VI.

Out of all current Bethesda games it’s Fallout 4 and Skyrim that have the most-active modding community, and the latter has taken a fresh mod out of the oven that we can’t help but adore.

Skyrim players can now wander the map accompanied by a gigantic sweet roll

The Skyrim sweet roll is simply iconic. There’s just something about it that looks so utterly inviting that your character is bound to have a few to snack on at any given time. Players have baked their own real-life versions, either through their own recipe or officially-licensed cookbooks.

The My Sweet Sweetroll mod created by nt6486 puts a different spin on the tasty treat however, as it makes a giant sweet roll an optional companion.

While it doesn’t look like much at first glance, the sweet roll is an immortal follower, meaning they can’t be killed by enemies. It can be knocked down but it’ll always get back up.

According to the mod’s description its main skills include: “Archery, Block, Sneak, HeavyArmor, Alteration.” It also had the “LightFoot, Silence, Cushioned, Quickshot” perks. How an enormous sweet roll can effectively sneak around the map is beyond us, but it’s hilarious all the same.

It’ll even give you a free sweet roll once per day if you’re feeling a bit peckish, and you can even marry it if you really like sweet rolls. We’re not judging.

Once you’ve got the mod downloaded you’ll find it hanging out at the The Drunken Huntsman tavern in Whiterun, and when you interact with it you’ll be able to recruit it as a follower.

We’re going to unfortunately break the hearts of all console players now. The My Sweet Sweetroll mod is exclusive to PCs. Xbox and PlayStation users can’t download it and nt6486 said there’s no plans to port it to consoles.

PC players are the only ones who can experience its sweetness. How lucky for them.

The images on its NexusMod pages are also worth checking out if you want a quick laugh too. They showcase the massive sweet roll in a variety of different locations such as hiding behind a greybeard, perusing the items in a shop or taking a quick plunge in a river. We’re not sure how to feel about that last one, surely it’d get soggy?

Those who play Skyrim on their PC should definitely give this mod a go. It’s not going to drastically change your playthrough by any means, but it will make it funnier.

Imagine a dragon’s confused face when you emerge from the woods with an enormous sweet roll behind your back…

Steam July demo offering boasts hilarious Elder Scrolls meets Doom game

Steam has a lot of excellent demos this July, but most pale in comparison to this mediaeval first-person shooter about slaying hordes of goblins.

The Steam Summer Sale has come to an end for another year, but there are still plenty of good offers left on the platform.

However if you’re all cashed out and can’t afford another addition to your backlog, you’ll probably appreciate some free demo recommendations.

Whether you’re looking for your next big adventure game or just want to pass a bit of time while Xbox finishes downloading your next game, we’d suggest checking out Gun ‘n Goblins, developed by Lance/Argl and published by SoulGame.

Due for release next year, Guns ‘n Goblins is an FPS where players become the “bell ringer,” tasked with defending your bastion from a never-ending wave of goblins.

“Face a deluge of monsters in this incremental horde survivor FPS” begins the game’s description. It goes on to say: “Build your Bastion, level up your character, and upgrade your arsenal to rise from Apprentice Bell Ringer to Master Dragon Hunter.”

Think of it like a 3D version of Vampire Survivors, but rather than dashing around and focusing on your own survival you’ve got a wider goal of keeping goblins off your lawn.

You start your run with just a mere pistol, which is good for taking down handfuls of lower-levelled goblins but far from suitable for the long night ahead.

Fortunately as your kill-count increases you’ll get access to better weapons, like an extra-long round of Gun Game from Call of Duty. Your growing arsenal will immediately be tested by increasingly large groups of enemies. There’s even a dragon that’ll show up eventually for some extra challenge.

We think Elder Scrolls fans will get a kick out of this one in particular, largely because they’re still waiting for Bethesda to drop its next game and have nothing better to do.

Of course Doom fans should also like this one, especially the aesthetic. It’s been nice to see so many indie games adopt pixel-art over the last few years, and games like Guns ‘n Goblins are an excellent example of how you can retain those classic visuals over modernised gameplay.

Altogether Guns ‘n Goblins is fabulously good fun, but if you need convincing further it’s currently sitting pretty with a Very Positive rating after 120 reviews. That’s just for the demo of course, as the full game hasn't been released yet.

Q2 2027 is the current release date so long as there are no delays, but the game is sound at the time of writing so it’d be nice to see it come out sooner if possible.

Steam is a treasure trove of free demos at the moment, and it’s always worth checking out if you’re looking for something new to play. You’d be hard-pressed to find as many free trials on Xbox and PlayStation’s platforms.

After 12 Years, One Piece Gives Haki Upgrade To A New Straw Hat

The Straw Hat Pirates were officially promoted to the rank of a Yonko crew in One Piece Chapter 1053, on June 20, 2022, and since then, they have gone from strength to strength. Every member of the Straw Hat Pirates continues to grow stronger with each adversity they face. However, there are still some members of the crew whom we can call slightly underwhelming, and Usopp is certainly one of them.

Xbox Executive Explains Outage, Vows to 'Do Better'

Xbox's Chief Technology Officer, Scott Van Vliet, has offered transparency and an explanation for the system and service outage that affected game libraries, sign-in, and game launching for many players from late Sunday night and well into Monday, vowing to "do better."

In a post on X, Van Vliet attributed the issue to a failure of "a licensing service that sits outside of Xbox, but which Xbox depends upon." He did not name the service, but said it was "an internal service at Microsoft that is shared across multiple products, not some random system." He continued: "This caused some sign-in scenarios to fail, and it caused many scenarios that require an entitlement check to also fail, such as listing out your Full Library and launching games that you own," he continued. "It also affected several of our publishing and store partners who depend on those same systems which is why some of you saw issues in specific games and not others." He called it "an unacceptable situation" and that Xbox "must do better to support you."

To address the problem, the Xbox CTO said, "Our on-call teams caught the first signals overnight through automated monitoring and declared a major incident. Once we isolated the failing infrastructure, we shifted traffic onto the healthy parts of the system while the team continued to work towards a root cause. Service came back unevenly across regions which is why some of you recovered hours before others."

Van Vliet said that for the company's next step, "We're running a full post-incident review. I care less about the one-line root cause and more about the real questions: why a failure in one service was able to take down this much, why recovery took as long as it did, and what we change so a single point of failure can't ruin your night again. That means hardening the dependencies underneath sign in and game launch, improving how we detect and contain this class of failure, and being faster and clearer with you when something breaks."

He concluded by thanking Xbox gamers for their patience, and said, "We'll do better."

This incident follows PlayStation suffering its own prolonged system and service outage, while Xbox prepares for this week's wide launch of Halo: Campaign Evolved, the Unreal Engine 5-based remake and 25th anniversary celebration of the original Xbox's killer app. IGN gave Campaign Evolved a 7 out of 10 in our review.

Dune's Biggest Inspiration Is Still the Greatest Adventure Epic of All Time

Just as J.R.R. Tolkien was integral to the fantasy landscape upon the release of his magnum opus, Frank Herbert fundamentally changed science fiction with the release of Dune, but Herbert's novel didn't exist in a vacuum. While readers often focus on its environmental themes, political intrigue, and sprawling mythology, one of its biggest inspirations belonged to an entirely different genre. Decades before Paul Atreides crossed the deserts of Arrakis, another reluctant outsider was uniting desert tribes in one of cinema's most celebrated historical epics.
